How
We Can Help
It
is hard to imagine what people from the Southeast
are going through. The needs of those affected by
this disaster will be with us for a long time. It
is only natural for professional organizers
encourage clients to turn useless clutter into some
else's needed goods. Like other colleagues, I have
made many inquiries concerning how donated items
might be put to good use. At this time, every
agencys main need is cash.
The
Dream Center
at 2301 Bellevue Avenue in Los Angeles has taken in
up to 300 displaced people. They are seeking
assistance. The
National Council of Jewish
Women,
Los Angeles, is accepting donations of items in
good condition to be distributed to Katrina
evacuees. These items are being collected at
Council Headquarters, 543 N. Fairfax. Only items
delivered to the Council Headquarters will be given
to the evacuees.

Planning
Is Important When Disasters
Occur
|
|

|
|
Living
in an earthquake zone still does not mean
we are any more prepared than those
affected by Hurricane Katrina. The
catastrophe in the southeast has taught us
we need to rely on ourselves during the
early period after a disaster
strikes.
Keep
emergency supplies at home, work and in
your car. It is suggested to keep a three
week inventory of food and water. Also
include first aid supplies, radio,
flashlights, and batteries. Should an
earthquake occur, candle light should not
be used because of possible gas
leaks.
Compile
a list with important phone and account
numbers:
- Insurance
Claims
- Medical
- Bank
- Family
Have
a point person to call out-of-town. They
can call other family members to let them
know you are alright.
Inventory
your possessions. This can be done by
making digital photographs and storing
both in a safety deposit box in the bank
and with an online service.
Is
your family
prepared?
