Holiday
Cooking
Thanksgiving
is just a month away. It's the start of the holiday
entertaining season. If cooking is a chore and not
a joy, start now and see how pleasant the kitchen
is when organized.
Preparing
meals for friends and family this holiday season is
a treat when favorite recipes are organized. Gather
all cookbooks decide which ones are the best. Keep
only those that are loved or you know will be used.
Just like anything else, favorite books and recipes
can be lost when buried in a minutia of
information.

The
Recipe Box
|
|

|
|
Sort
recipes into categories. Keep your recipe
file simple. For recipe cards, purchase an
index card box and category dividers from
the office supply store. Then create your
own sections. Possible categories could
include Appetizers, Desserts, Drinks, Side
Dishes, Meat & Poultry, and
Seafood.

|
Or
Create A Recipe Book
|
|

|
|
If
you have the time, create recipes files on
your computer. This makes handwritten
cards easier to read and copies are
available for friends at a moments notice.
Or if recipes are handwritten on paper or
torn from magazines use plastic insert
sheets and create your own recipe book in
a binder. The same categories suggested
for the card box can also be used on tab
dividers in your binder.
Keep
your culinary library either in the
kitchen or close by for easy
reference.

Inventory
the Bar
|
|

|
|
Company
may drop by at any time. Be prepared by
creating a check list of favorite drinks
and mixers. Include other essentials such
as cocktail napkins, lemons, limes, ice
and other necessary items. Keep copies of
the list at the bar for future
inventories.
The
ice bucket, tongs, glasses, jigger,
corkscrew, blender, shaker, mixing glass,
paring knife, and measuring spoons should
be kept within reach. Now you will be the
perfect host at any occasion.
