Nominees have been announced for the 2006 Los Angeles Organizing Awards, to be held at Maggiano's at the Grove in Los Angeles, on January 30, 2006. "Those honored with a nomination include authors, trainers, retailers, broadcasters and individuals who define standards for home and business productivity," stated NAPO-LA President Chris McKenry.

The 2006 Los Angeles Organizing Awards will also honor the individual achievements of LA’s hottest Organizing Experts as well as the Chapter’s participation in January’s GO-Month (or National “Get Organized Month”) activities. Many nominees have confirmed their attendance at the event and you are invited.

All fourteen winners will be announced at the Awards Gala, to be hosted by Dave Linden. Festivities begin with a reception honoring nominees & silent auction at 6 pm followed by a four-course dinner at 7 pm. The evening will include a multi-media presentation highlighting the accomplishments of NAPO-LA, and the chapter’s participation in National “Get Organized Month". Tickets are $75 per person may be purchased online at www.napola.org, and the public is invited. Reservations must be made by Wednesday, January 25.

The National Association of Professional Organizers is a professional membership organization dedicated to the professional organizing industry. NAPO’s 1985 inception began in Los Angeles and today the chapter membership includes over 100 organizing consultants, speakers, authors and manufacturers of organizing products, who members serve both residential and commercial clients. The 2006 Los Angeles Organizing Awards is an event of the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers. The Container Store is a corporate sponsor.

Chris McKenry was the 2005 recipient of the Leading Edge Award.

Bags, Containers, and Other Obstacles

Whether you are unpacking from the grocery or the warehouse store, remove items from the package. This allows more room for storage, items are visible and it is easier to access the items for use.

Piling bags filled with items in your cabinets or closets just make your purchases disappear. Unload the car, unpack your bags, then sort and put away.

The Magazine Clutter

Are magazines taking over your home? There are always good articles to be found, but you can not be a library for every story. Especially with the Internet available. Eliminate the frustration of magazines piling up and never being read.

Then when issues arrive, quickly scan it to be sure they are worth keeping. Fold back pages of interest, or even better tear out articles of interest. Be realistic with yourself and your paper clutter will start to disappear.

Profit from Your Excess

tupperwareSale

Throughout your home there is good "clutter" just waiting to be used by someone else. Plan a tag sale and include friends to make it a fun day. The more people involved and the more items for sale will create a busier, more inviting, environment.

Get necessary permits, if needed. Place ads in local papers. Those Saturday morning shoppers plan ahead. Be sure signs are posted at intersections and in your yard. If items are dirty, clean them. You are not having a "junk sale". Organize items on tables, or shelves. If you have clothes, have a portable garment rack to display items.

Have everything priced and ready to go EARLY. The serious shoppers will be in your yard by 7 am. Have a bank with small bills and change. Do not be greedy, even if the item has never been used.
